The term Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a definition that started somewhere in the late 1980s or early 1990s. MES covers a broad set of manufacturing aspects and many people who implement a subset of the overall MES concept refer to it as their MES system.
The most common areas of focus that are truly part of an MES system are Traceability, Scheduling, Labor tracking, recipe management, and machine utilization. A trend over the years has been to expand the footprint of SCADA systems and call it MES.
The bottom line is you can utilize a variety of tools and systems to track manufacturing, keep a detailed geneology of the product, and measure the key performance indicators.
At Star-Tech our focus is on providing the most cost effective approach that will in turn have a positive impact on the operations in manufacturing.
A key component of the team is a group of people that have lived in a manufacturing world and lived through the daily challenges you may be dealing with in your environment. There is a lot of grey hair in the Star-Tech team and that is a major asset for anybody that is implementing a manufacturing system.
